18 Miles!

I missed my Marathon Monday, oh well…

Not to worry, week eight of my marathon training was a success I completed all my schedule miles including my 18 miles long run, yay me!  I was supposed to run them Saturday but Joaquin showed up or maybe he didn’t? 

 Well it had been raining most of the week so when I woke up Saturday morning and it was dark and raining I just couldn’t get myself out the door to join my group run. I figured I could run on my own after the rain was over. The weather app was saying that rain will be over by 10 am. My mistake here: going back to bed. At 10 am it had stopped raining, what?! the weather man got it right?! but this time the weather app was saying that the rain will start again at 2 pm. Meaning it will start raining while I was in the middle of the 18 miles. So I figured I could just go to the gym and run on the treadmill. That’s when the laziest day ever started. I never left my bed! See I work two jobs, a Monday to Friday 9 to 5 desk job and a part-time as a server, so I rarely have a full day off. The past two Saturdays I have ask for the day off from the restaurant since I was running 18 miles. First Saturday I only run 14 and I was feeling super guilty not to go to work afterwards. But this past Saturday there was no guilt at all, I was just in heaven, watching TV and snoozing off every time I felt like it, so embarrassing! But I don’t regret it, just don’t judge me…
Sunday I prepared for work at the restaurant and packed my running gear. I was ready to moan and whine until I was sent home early, I had to run 18 miles somehow or another! It kinda work, I could go running instead of working my lunch shift, but I had to come back to work a dinner shift, oh boy! Well I took the offer! I had to complete my 18 miles and I was well rested from doing nothing Saturday. I could run 18 miles and then work, no biggie!

  18 miles! That was quite an accomplishment, slow and all… It was a good thing that people where waiting for me at work, that made me push myself to finish on time and not to give up because it would have been too embarrassing to go back to work and had only done 14 miles, after I told everyone I was doing 18! I also think it was a good idea to keep moving after the long run, plus according to my fitbit, between the long run and work I almost completed a marathon that day! 

 I did two big no-no’s from my running group: I run with my headphones on (headphones are not allowed on group runs) and I went 9 miles out and back (on group runs we only have a 5 mile radius from where our coach is, just in case something happens) I have to admit that I enjoyed my two no-no’s – I love music, so running with it was so much fun, occasionally I will get lost in the songs, singing and dancing in my head and I will not notice the miles passing by. I have to write a blog just on my playlist I have some guilty pleasures there that you will enjoy ha!

I also loved the 9 miles I picked! So pretty! I wanted to take so many pictures, but I did not want to stop. Have I ever mentioned where I run? It’s called the W&OD Trail, it’s 45 miles long and I only know 19 of it. I started at Sterling and went up to Leesburg. Here is a video I found on YouTube, it might make you a bit dizzy though and is definitely not the prettiest part of the trail.

This week it’s also going to be crazy and I will tell you all about it, now I have to go run 5 miles of Intervals.

  1. Juggling work and running is one of the hardest parts of what we do, but you did it! And you did 18 miles! Congrats, and keep going. You’re in the home stretch now!

  2. Sounds like the rest helped you go faster. Sometimes you need to strike that balance even when it is out of synch with the training plan. Still, I don’t know how people run with headphones, I always get them tangled.
