#MarathonMonday

Late again to the party, but in a way today is my Monday, so there you go…

Last week was short and sweet, just 4 miles on Monday, 7 miles on Tuesday and then off until Sunday when I run the VA Beach Rock ’n Roll Half Marathon.

This is not going to be a happy post because I’m so disappointed with myself. See, I have been running 12 miles in 3 hours for the past two weeks, so I thought I was going to do great on this half marathon. 13.1 miles maybe 3:20 the most, and who knows maybe even faster because of the excitement of the race! Well that didn’t happen, it took me 3:49 to complete it! My worst time ever for this race. I have run this one 4 years now and it’s always awful because it’s so hot and humid, but I thought I was going to do so great this time since for once I am training. Yeah, I have never trained for a race before. AHHHH! Frustrating! But that’s that and let’s move on…

The weekend was fun, I always hate running this one because of the heat, but then I love everything else about it! As I was leaving VA Beach Monday morning I was thinking “aw I want to come back again next year”

So here is my little “runcation” tale with a few pics:

Early bed time on Saturday night with all things prepared. Bus was taking us from the campground I stayed at to the race start at 5 am, yawn!

This is my least favorite part of race time ha!

Race started at 7:30 am and off we went! 13.1 hot and humid miles

Finish line! Medal and a cold beer.

Look, is the guy from my shirt!

This week is also a short one. Monday:Day Off, Tuesday:5 miles, Wednesday:7 miles, Thursday:Flex Day, Friday:Day Off, Saturday:15 miles, Sunday:Day Off

Not going to panick about my upcoming Marathon, this last half was a bad one, but I’m too stubborn to quit. If anything I am more inspired now to keep my training. I’m going to reach that NYC finish line and proof myself that I’m capable of anything I set my mind to DARN IT!

  1. I was there! I wish I could agree that this was hot and humid, but being a local… this was actually wonderful weather to run in September, hah!

  2. Yay congrats on this race!! You’ll get the time you’re looking for! It’s only a matter of time before you get a huge PR! 💗 I live pretty close to Va Beach! All my summer races are in Va Beach. It’s a fun area! Have a fabulous day!

  3. Still a good job – I’m thinking two things: first, they always say that you run slower in hotter and more humid conditions. So if you’ve been training in cooler/dryer conditions, then it makes perfect sense that you slowed. Secondly, Hugh may have hit on another piece of it, with coming out of the gate too quick, or at any rate… quicker than you normally do. Great job, keep it up!
